Lykke Li is apparently a Swedish singer/popstar –and she recently had a sold out concert at Le Poisson Rouge on Bleeker Street. I didn't go to her concert, but I did stop by the after party which was sponsored by Kanon Vodka. I went with my inherent prejudice that a Swedish popstar would have an attractive following. And, no surprise I was right! Whether these two are actually Swedish or not I have no idea...but they LOOK like they could be –and isn't that kind of the same thing?
Lykke Li is herself rather attractive although in my opinion looks somewhat bizarre in this music video: like if Avril Lavigne tried to be a bit more model-y and had a stylist inspired by the Lady Gaga school of outrageousness but somehow the look gets lost in translation. Do you know this singer? Are you a fan? And what do you think of her video here?

Ain't it Grand?
I literally stopped this girl, Preetma, in her tracks. She was on her way out at the Soho Grand and I had to take her photo: The Dress is by Rodarte, which figures because they always make clothes with a haptic quality. The boots are Rag & Bone and I adore the rather eye-catching bag dressed up like a taxicab but can't read my writing where I scribbled down the label. So if anyone recognizes it please let me know!

Stevie Boi at the Soho Grand
So last night at the Soho Grand we had an insane end of fashion week party with the designer of customized sunglasses, Stevie Boi (shown here with friends) as a special guest. The place was so packed it ended up being shut down early but not before everyone had a chance to chill out. I love the insane shoulders on the jacket and the traveling star tattoo as well as the hairstyle reminiscent of Prince circa 1999 -only perhaps a little bigger!

Trend alert: the return of big hair
It's been a long time coming, but I predict big hair is coming back with a vengeance after a decade of the flat iron. Since my hair is naturally stick straight it won't be anything you'll see on me but it will be interesting to see if I'm right and if so what permutations it will take: Hairband hair? Spiral Perms? Afros?

Broadway Baby
This gypsy has escaped from the west side and came downtown for the evening. I love her headscarf and hope this becomes a trend for spring/summer. Such an easy and economical way to change your look!

oh those beautiful boys
Seriously I love the narrow cut of current fashion for boys. True, they need to be thinner to pull it off well but when they do it looks great...like on these two...

Sparkle + Shine
I met Dawn last Thursday at Niko's party. She's a super cool stylist and colorist at the Aveda Salon in Soho. She also happened to be carrying the new Marc Jacob's bag that has caught my eye with it's little metal birds...but my New Year's Resolution is to not shop for anything beyond necessities in 2010. So my question is: is a Marc Jacob's bag a necessity?

model couple
Okay my backstory on these two: she spent the night at his place and threw one of his sweaters on as a dress and borrowed a belt as well...fictions aside they are indeed a stylish couple. I especially love her red bag and his multi-buckled boots.

Because I know you wanted another look...
Here's a full length photo of the boy pictured with Sophia yesterday. (a bit overexposed so you can see the details in the feathered jacket and LV bag) These two pieces make the look.

and sometimes simple is best
There is nothing that jumps out about this girl's outfit but it still caught my eye. Favorite details? The wedge heel boots and the seams on the front of the jeans. (kind of hard to see in the photo, though!)

black goes with everything but does everything go if it's black?
Okay maybe it does look a little like she put everything black in her closet on...(jeans & a dress?...more LA than NYC)but we're loving the shoes, the pink lips and the hair. And it is a cute dress.

Niko's Birthday Party
Last night was Niko's birthday party. It started at the Soho Grand and went on to the Jane Hotel and was filled with amazing people. Like these fabulous two here. More party guests over the next few days and even more coming soon on Fashion Indie. (i'll post the link once they're up!)

Hot
So I was streaming Californication on Netflix earlier today (I don't get Showtime so I'm way behind in the series) and this girl reminds me of the teenager who hooks up with Hank who thinks she's like 22. Except I think this girl IS about 22...which is still too young for Hank...but she is hot. Poor Hank.

An accident waiting to happen...
Or maybe one that has already happened? MORE shredded looks. Will this never end? Is the Soho Grand overtaking the Tribeca? Will we never tire of either? Of course we will. Eventually. But not yet!

River + Parker
This is River + Parker. Whenever I go somewhere cool...there they are. I love these boys. And I think they have fierce style.

I wanna rock 'n roll all night...
Mostly I show single "style" shots but once in awhile there is a group photo that captures a sort of collective style. This was taken last night at Niko's party at the Soho Grand and just kind of happened. I love when it just works...you can see a few more photos from the party in the Musings section or just click here

You are sooo Overexposed
Love the run on the side of this knit dress. I blew out this shot a bit because originally it was too dark but as I was lightening it up I felt like this photo wanted an extreme so I went the other way, but keeping in the detail. I was inspired by a Bazaar cover that was part of the Met Costume Institute's Models as Muses show which recently closed. So, you can't see that anymore but maybe you can see this girl and what she's wearing tonight at the Soho Grand. (and that, my friends, is the end of my shameless promotion!)

Channeling Chanel
I don't know what exactly this is that my friend Niko Liakaris is wearing, or more to the point, how this Chanel-in-Chains is supposed to be worn. But I love how he just threw it on over black and let it be the distinctive accent in his look. And this is fashion at its best: taking something iconic and making it your own. Niko, along with Jon Daly, Brandon Bogard & Gabi Richmond are hosting a new party at the Soho Grand on Thursday nights with Lindsay Luv and Jamie Biden spinning tunes. Full disclosure: I'll be taking photos for Style Defined and Fashion Indie so I hope if you're in NYC you'll come out and play with us. If you do, come up and say "hi!"
